Tookapic is an unique photography challenge that requires you to take and publish only one photo a day. It helps people improve their photography and appreciate their photos more.
On August 14th, 2013 Paweł Kadysz, future founder of Tookapic decided to start his photo a day project. He wanted the project to last for 365 days straight. On the very same day he set up a simple tumblr blog and published his first photo.
Exactly one year later, on August 15th the 365th photo was published. Not a single day missed. Huge personal success for Pawel.
But he missed something the whole year. There was no community focused around the same idea of daily photo taking. The idea of Tookapic was born on June 10th, 2014. Few weeks before the end of Pawel's project.
Fortunately Pawel was running a small web design studio in north-eastern Poland at the time. His team helped building several startups before. But this was the time to start something on their own.
The decision was made. And so, the very first line of code was written on June 10th, 2014. On June 27th, 2014 we published a very first page on tookapic.com - a simple landing page asking people to sign up for a private beta.
On October 9th, 2014 we decided we were ready for the launch of our private beta. Oh, how wrong we were. The number of bugs and errors was close to infinity. But we did it. We launched tookapic. And it was great moment for us. And so an awesome photography adventure began.
Today Tookapic is a wonderful community of more than 17,000 amateur photographers from all over the world. People who meet on the site every day to share their photos and thoughts.
Do something today that your future self will thank you for.
