tookapic community on Slack

I've been using Slack for quite some time now and I absolutely love it. It's a multi-platform real-time chat app. It works great for communities focused around a particular topics, like 365 project. I thought we'd give it a try.

Joining the chat requires me to send you an invite manually, so I set up a simple form to make the signing up much easier:

agnieszka bladzik yes this is good question

Jennifer Hmm, okay, interesting! I just got the invite in, so I'm going to go click around!

tigg Ok. I've signed up - accepted the invite - and I now see a list of members and their email addresses. That was through Safari - I have no idea how to use the app. Think I may be missing something here; also, what is this going to be used for? Thinking I may have made a mistake. Convince me someone that this is a good and useful thing for me! Thank you.

Terry Artt Signed up and downloaded the app. What is the team name to sign into an existing team? Tried Tookapic.slack.com but it is not recognised.

Paweł Kadysz You need to wait for the invitation. I send those out once a day.

Terry Artt Thanks Pawel, too impatient. 😊

Bridget Braun Yay! I love slack I use it at work.

Paweł Kadysz Took me a year, but I just sent out last batch of invites :P

agnieszka bladzik i hate having to many apps on the phone, i would rather stick to tookapic itself and maybe group on FB. it's easier to follow when everything it's in one place. just my opinion

FlyteWizard Fair enough, but some people don't have facebook. But I guess you can't please everyone.

Kazzi I'd rather encourage more users to use talks! :)

Satoshi T I agree with @agnieszka about apps on the phone. and It is a very personal problem, but I feel that difficult to use multiple SNS services concurrently over the long term. I will definitely stick to Tookapic only...

Kazzi I presume there will always group of people used to one or another way of contact - some write posts here, some on facebook group, other groups are used to Slack at work for example or prefere an old-traditioned way of email contact... Seems to me, that Paweł tries to reach to as many of those groups as possible.

The problem is when You try to be everywhere :D

agnieszka bladzik exactly, and then I feel that i missing sth because I'm not having slack.

agnieszka bladzik it was just maybe as there is a group already, but my most preferred is to have all talks about tookapic on tookapic. there was some voting on weekly theme on slack and I feel i missed it - also when the voting was on FB not all have chance and there was huge discussion on it. - should there be voting or not.

Szymon Maciejczyk Kazziz is everywhere ! :)

Kazzi yup :D

Paweł Kadysz Psst, anyone using telegram here? It's more popular than Slack, at least among non-business people? I'm at t.me/pawelkadysz - msg me and we can create a Tookapic group on telegram (I can't do it on my own :P)

ponzu I deleted Telegram. Next someone will suggest a Tookapic group on Flickr. And why not? I need a reason to keep going back there.

Kazzi Aren't we multiplying tookapic groups too much? We have a (dead) group on Facebook, we have a (dead) slack community... how about reviving tookapic global or creating tookapic poland for people, who feel their english isn't #goodenough?

ponzu Not having been a part of Facebook or Slack, I would say no.

Kazzi like You don't use them (fb and slack) or You're not on our groups?

ponzu Not in the Tookapic groups. Pawel told me Slack was dead. And Facebook must have been before my time.

ponzu I don't want to see Tookapic on Facebook. Part of the magic would be gone. And Slack is just too...weird, especially as a photo sharing platform.

agnieszka bladzik i agree, no reason to have those for me. FB is the most popular one [majority of people have it] and still it's dead. i personally hate having to many applications and places to check what's new

Ian Prince Telegram is cool for me (as is Slack)

Aga Ka I agree, trying to be on different platforms will divide community eventually. Simply cause one will prefer FB over Slack, other Telegram etc etc. I understand that slack might work great for communities focused around a particular topics but at the same time I tihnk tookapic works great too. There are maybe different/extra things on slack but I think it's cool to have one place to watch/like photos, read about different topics, vote something if needed, ask people questions etc etc. Having one place makes people checing that place for everything related and asking questions on one platform will have more chance to reach more people (as everyone will check here) if you know what I mean (im not sure if I got clear what I want to say)
