A late arrival.

Hippeastrum is a genus of South American bulbs whose cultivars are commonly sold by florists and garden centres as Amaryllis. ProperAmaryllis are bulbous flowers as well, but they come from the other side of the Atlantic, from South Africa.Botany is such a difficult subject! I normally try to get the bulb to flower in time for Christmas but only now is it about to flower. A bit of colour for what has been an exceedingly cold and wet day, even for winter, let alone "summer".
