Six months ago I upgraded from an a 3 year old Macbook Air to a Pro.
More power! (Said in a Clarkson voice).
But, 21 days ago (according to Crash Plan) I introduced the Pro to water :/
The result? fried the power supply and the 1TB SSD hard drive resulting in $2300 in repairs. Basically, I now have a very nice looking paperweight... even though I don't have papers.
With the upcoming trip to Europe looming I've been going through various options that hit the portable and not $2300 criteria. As a result, these last few weeks have been interesting.
My first replacement was a Chromebook. I loved it and the battery life was amazing. I'm fully invested in the Google ecosystem and it's amazing what they've done with that OS. However, with the lack of LR and PS it would mean I'd have to eventually get something else. So I had to move on. If LR and PS came to Chrome OS.... hello Chromebook Pixel.
Next up, an Asus netbook. Again, cheap and portable but also gave me LR and Photoshop access. Battery life was good, but the screen quality and that trackpad from hell made me think otherwise.
Anyways, as you can see, the result is... and 11 inch Macbook Air. It may have been... a lot more than the competition and the battery life not as good but... it feels right.
I will miss the Pro, with it's Retina screen, i7 CPU, 16GB of RAM and 1TB drive. But, I welcome this tiny new computer and how it will fit into my goal of traveling more.
