unnatural light

I'm expecting a flash on the next few weeks, I don't know much about flash photography but I'm willing to learn. In the meantime I'm just trying to play with background and fill light to see how it goes.

I'm very partial to the rule of thirds, but lately I've been enraptured by symmetry.
