I have probably mentioned this before, but rarely do I have a plan when I walk out the door to take my walks. Often, I select a part of town that I want to go to, but once there, or once I get close, I follow either my instincts or my whims and I end up nowhere near my original destination.
I find that this happens with the photographs I take as well. This is why I tend to consider my photographs a road map of my mind, as they tend to illustrate what my eyes and mind train on as I make my way around the city.
This photo illustrates both the meandering ways of my footsteps and of my mind. I headed off this afternoon toward the Haight, with no real plan. I had my Rolleicord with me so I thought that area might present a few good opportunities for photographs. At some point, it occurred to me that in the seven years I've lived in San Francisco, I had never sought out the homes of the 1960s' rock icons, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, and the Grateful Dead.
So... I did.
While on Fulton Street, where the Jefferson Airplane "mansion" sits, I photographed it and several homes along the way. (The Airplane building had cars parked in front of it, so I got nothing worthy of posting.) While I was waiting for traffic to pass, so that I could walk into the middle of the street to get closer to a house on the other side, looked down and saw this sliver of light scraping across the tire of the nearby truck and onto the pavement.
