Before I departed back to Bialystok I took the last look over the lab where I have spent a lot of time working on my research and learning many things. I am leaving it for the next generation of PhD students.
Yes, a windowless lab. 10 desks. A couch. Some chairs. A few shelfs. A lot of books. Some computers. A lot of old stuff. A kitchen with a fridge and a tap. Photos on the walls reminding the history of the lab, portraying people during the trips outside Pittsburgh, who were taking the advantage of this peaceful place to work hard on their research.
To make it more colorful, I left the poster of the painting by Van Gogh. It may be taken down by other students, but it does not matter. As everybody before me I left something of mine there.
Last glance... I turned off the lights... pulled out my baggage from the lab closing it behind me. I took the bus 28X to the airport...
