Cow fighting.

There is a tradition in Valais in the spring where the cows fight to determine which cow leads the herd up to the mountain pasture for the summer. They rarely injure each other. The cows that fight are a breed called Heren originating in the Val d'Herens.

Eva We have the same in valle d'Aosta, an italian region, and the battling cows are called "reine" in the dialect, that I guess means "Queens"

Terry Artt That is interesting Eva, Valle d'Aosta being just over the Alps from Valais means that the tradition is probably more alpine than I realised.
