Margie I appreciate your interest in the Amish way of life which I believe originated in Switzerland. Some may find it very constraining, but the core values are of family and hard work and doing good deeds. So the focus is inward, not outward or against anyone else, just a separation from things worldly. Many use generators for power, and don't have cars etc (thus the horsepower).
