About 25 miles from the Island of Isla Mujeres in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico
We awoke this particular morning easily, ate our breakfast quickly. Hailed a taxi, got to the marina and boarded the boat "Ceviche."
It took us about an hour to reach the location of the dominoes (nicknamed for their domino like spots.) There were probably 50 other boats toting boat loads full of thrill seekers. A multicopter was in the air counting, over the radio they said there was around 400.
You jump off the boat in pairs, swim as fast as you can to keep up with them and hope you got the shots. The initial rush comes before you ever get in the water, with the captain rushing everyone to get their gear on. We just in, the captain put us right in front of one of the, with his mouth wide open catching plankton. The only word that come to mind is enigmatic. We jump, swim, shoot, and get back in the boat about 4 or 5 times. These guys are protected, so you are not supposed to touch them. One of the times I was in, the current was pushing me towards one of them, I didn't want to scrape my fins on it so I didn't kick. The current pushed me right into the side of it, I pushed off and will never forget that moment.
We wrapped up and headed back to Isla Mujeres, stopping at a beautiful white sand beach. They prepared us fresh Ceviche (ah this is where the boat name comes from!)
This was one of the top experiences of my life, I would highly recommend it is a little over $100 and worth every penny.
