The 75 foot long island planter wall was bowed, uneven, and dirty. Jim didn't see what I saw, so I didn't expect the wall to be rebuilt or taken down entirely until next year. (Now that Jim is retired, we co-chair the COO position!) However, on Monday evening Nathan said he could work for us on Tuesday and Thursday. Maryann and Becky were available too and paver sand could be delivered by 9 am Tuesday. The sun, moon, and stars were aligned! Let the project begin - never mind it was the hottest week of the summer! First, we girls removed the top layers of drainage pebbles behind the block wall. We did that by hand for a few hours then set those clean pebbles aside. Next, Jim and Nathan removed that top course and power washed the individual blocks. Then, they removed dirt and stones from behind the next two courses.and power washed those blocks too. Finally, they were able to reset the base course. Ryan stayed over last night; so early this morning before he returned home, we enlisted his help to put the blocks back in place. That was the fun, easy part! All that remained was that mountain of dirt and stones that Jim and Nathan removed. It was on a tarp in the middle of the island and needed to be put back behind the wall. Jim figured he would take care of that tomorrow and went golfing with lake buddies. As a surprise, I did it for him! It felt great to be able to work hard again after being down for so many days after radiation.
