My second favorite at the lake -- Community Garage Sale Day! Over 100 residents trying to get rid of their junk! Hurry, hurry, I didn't want to be late! At 8 am Jim and I jumped in our golf cart. Our first stop was the Amish donut stand, of course. Then we spent hours visiting with friends and neighbors at their garage sale. What a hoot to pass friends on their golf carts going in the opposite direction racing to the next sale. We visited with Nathan and his family and many others from the Amish community most of whom were pulling wagons laden with treasures. No lack of edibles either. Residents sell everything from pastries to steak hoagies and I even saw a Bloody Mary stand where a young Amish girl had just made a purchase! The roads were jammed and traffic was stopped as usual. It's great! We bought a No Wake sign from a boy who made the sign out of a pallet, new clothes for Owen, and a little girl's watermelon Coach purse too cute to pass up. Around noon Jim had his fill, so I called Kathy B hoping she would join me on a quest, which she did. The Women's Club needed new items for the Fall Festival All Day Raffle and there were plenty of new items around that hadn't been sold. (I created the raffle in 2010 when I was the FF chairperson. Kathy was quick to "drink the Kool-Aid" and enthusiastically sold tickets. We've been friends ever since.) Back to the quest. Kathy and I circled the lake asking for donations. People were so generous, my cart was overflowing! As I left each house I said, "And with any luck, you WON'T win your stuff back!" :)
