Few weeks ago Spotify discontinued their API which support is built in my to my Onkyo. They say it's because they "look to improve the overall Spotify experience". Yay, I feel so much better now. Of course Onkyo don't care and won't release appropriate firmware update. So basically I had 3 options: cancel my Spotify subscription, replace my hifi system to the one that has built in Spotify support, or equip the current one with external, "Spotify-ready" device. After all I do like the amount of music and flexibility of streaming services, so let's skip the first option. Going for a new hifi with native Spotify support probably would end up the same way, sooner or later. Eventually, after quick research I decided not to invest that much, and when it comes to value-for-money, nothing really beats Chromecast Audio. When connected with optical cable it sounds really good. Much, much better than my temporary solution, which was based on bluetooth adapter. And yeah, all that description for the streak pic.
