Stenson Lock is the second deepest lock on the Trent and Mersey canal. It's also known as "The Bubble" supposedly because the lock gates produce an usual natural phenomena in the canal. A pool of distinctive, bubbling water, which has occurred as long as anyone can remember. Hence the pub next door being called " The Bubble Inn"

Sazby I am reliably informed that The "bubble" refers to the effect caused by the overflow bypass entering the canal below the lock on the towpath side and moving across the canal to hit the wall on the far side.
