Why I shoot: Because Learning Happens

I'm an educator.

My passion (and conveniently even, my job) is to help people discover more about the world. Sometimes I do that with a PowerPoint, other times I take folks into the woods and get their hands dirty, and other times it's just by chance.

Tonight I was playing with my camera sittings, nothing serious, just doing some learning and playing (sometime I'm sure everyone has done at one point or another) when a student came up to me.

He was asking why I was fiddling with my buttons, pressing the shutter, fiddling more with my buttons, pressing the shutter again, and so on, and so on.

I told him I wanted to see if I could make it look like daytime using the moon instead of the sun. This led to a ten minute conversation about the basic of exposure and why his nighttime photos didn't look the way he wanted (we was shooting on his cell phone).

While I enjoy photography as a hobby, I also use it as tool to help people learn more about the world around them.
