It's quite easy to do - I just put a panel of white perspex on a couple of stacks of books, and put my flash below it at high power.
I then closed the lens aperture (to "cancel" ambient light), set self timer, poured the liquid, checked the result, and tried again.
It took a few tries to get a good timing, but after all it's not something difficult to do. :-)
