No.1 Tunnel of the Lake Biwa Sosui Canal

The Lake Biwa Sosui Canal was completed in 1890, creating a direct waterways from Lake Biwa to the City of Kyoto. We're at the entrance to the first of three tunnels, and it's looking a bit wintry (and yes, it's cold). Definitely a place to come back in visit in the spring when the cherry trees along the embankment are in bloom, and with more time for hiking and exploring.
