A very very essential thing. I'm not riding a bike without it and I aim to ride to work on daily basis no matter what's happening outside (yes, I've made it today after some days "off" and it was first day of snow in Gdańsk I've experienced this year...). There was a time when I used helmet only riding on mountain bike on the rough terrain. But I didn't feel comfortable in it. Finally, when I've decided to buy a better one, two or three weeks later my friend died because he has a crash while "this one time" not having helmet. Since then - it was about 9 years ago - I've never been riding in the city without a helmet. It's my head, my life, my health and any avoidance of "bad hair" isn't worth loosing all of that. This is a second one, exchanged in the "Crash replacement program" of Giro. Yes, the previous one saved my head and broke in halves. Ride safe!
