Sapperton Canal Tunnel 49/365
I’m standing on the Coates Portal, at the entrance to the 3,500m long Sapperton Tunnel on the Cotswold Canal. When the tunnel was built in 1784-9, it was the longest ever built. Sadly it has been disused for more than a century and thus has fallen into disrepair, and would take a huge investment to reopen at any time in the future.
