Received a new lens to test this week, the Lensbaby Velvet 56. It promises to "infuse images with edge-to-edge ethereal glow, or a crisp vintage look by stopping down the aperture."
For first impressions, it's an impressively well-designed manual lens that produces some beautiful and very interesting captures.
This shot is straight out of the camera - no processing at all, and you can see the lovely bokeh and creamy tones. However, it's also a tough lens to get the most from, at least at the start. It's easy to see the overall softness here that comes from shooting close to wide open (f/2 - it goes out to f/1.6).
Still, so far so good - I look forward to more testing (and improving my technique) in the US next week...
