Once a major Tudor palace and castle in the village of Old Basing in Hampshire. It is said to have once rivalled Hampton Court Palace in its size and opulence, but was almost completely destroyed during the English Civil War in the 1600s. Today only parts of the basement plus the foundations and earthworks remain.
The 'Great Barn' and field on the left was the site of a Time Team dig a few years ago, which was sadly one of the least successful investigations I've seen in that series!
On a personal note, but my first job after graduation was based in a small office in Old Basing (it's almost hidden in front of the railway on the left) - working as an AIX and Lotus consultant for a small IBM reseller, Dyadic Systems. I stayed there 10 years and loved working for a lovely firm in such a gorgeous location.
