I took 1100 photos on the first day of the swim league. It’s not as bad as 6000 photos I took on the first day 2 years ago (there was no league last year). 6000 photos are very hard to go through, and by the time you do, everyone has lost patience and interest in seeing them — or so I tell myself. 1100 swim photos are really easy to go through for me, because bad ones stick out as thumbnails, and good ones are easy to see when quickly going through full screen photos. Unfortunately, having decided to take fewer swim photos, I forgot to also decide to take fewer dive and behind-the-scenes photos. Of the 1100, no fewer than 800 are dive and behind the scene photos of the kids being cute and coaches being nice to the kids. And they all look the same — equally good or equally bad depending on how well I arranged the light and the composition. As a result, the 800 behind-the-scenes and dive photos are really hard to go through, and I keep starting and stopping.
I uploaded this photo of a little swimmer and her big sister as soon as I took it, using the camera’s wifi, so I could share it with their parents. The big sister, who is also one of the coaches on the team, jumped in to help guide and encourage the little one to the end of a 25 yard swim and help her avoid hitting the lane lines and, more importantly, hitting her head on the wall. There are probably more dynamic or interesting photos among the 1100, but a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, and a photo on the phone is sometimes better than a thousand on the hard drive.
