The young heron was more her self today. She flew over from the water this morning to the grass. She ate most of her pollock before flying back. I made my way round the loch to where the male has been waiting and sure enough he was waiting there. As soon as I arrived he moved closer and got his Sardines the crow also got a bit along with a biscuit.
It was similar this afternoon although I bought a couple of Mackerel fillets to top up the Pollock. The young Heron was waiting on the dovecote and flew down. She finished the pollock and as I was putting the lid on the box she flew over to the drainage area. I went across and as I had no way to cut up her Mackerel I just threw it over to her. She stared at at for a minute or so then picked it up and ate it. I continued round the loch and saw a couple taking a photo of the male. As I approached his head went up and he made his way over to me. I gave him a couple of sardines and made my way home.
I have no idea what is happening with the chicks. There is no sound from the nest and the only young heron I can see look too old, more like last year's chicks. They may be there deeper in the wooded area. I will keep my eyes open!
