Jonathan Dimbleby summed it up so well this evening. Not his words, but he said that the grief is overwhelming, and then goes away as you welcome the King. Then suddenly, you are overcome with grief again.
I believe that personal grief for all those you have loved and lost comes to the surface, and maybe part of the grief has roots in Covid and the pandemic.
I forgot to mention that last Friday we received a telephone call from a distant friend living in Florida. Her late husband had owned old cars and they had both stayed with us in the 1990’s. She is now quite a mature lady with whom we exchange Christmas cards and a short note – as we all do. She rang out of the blue to express her sympathy on the death of HM The Queen. How amazing was that; not spoken to her for maybe a decade or more and she was sufficiently moved to look for our number and give us a call.
