All 4 herons were around today, they were at their respective ends of the loch. It was really brought home to me today how different they are. The two females stand very close to each other and know that they are fed alternately. Neither makes any attempt to go for the others food. I find that quite amazing really. The other end is probably more natural in that whoever is there first chases the other away (invariably it is the youngest male that is chased although not always). I do manage to feed them both but it takes a lot more effort than feeding the females.
