I went to a funeral today, of a lady I had never met. I had met the deceased's daughter before, when a car drove up to our back door a couple of weeks ago mistaking our house for the vicarage. The young lady in the passenger seat - no older than our son - was very polite and asked if there was any space in the cemetery where she could bury her mother.
Was not expecting that.
I chatted, passed on the details of our clergy, and swapped telephone numbers. Cut to today, when David our vicar led a fitting service for someone who sounded to be an amazing lady. Sue had fostered over 200 children, and had borne two of her own. And Sue was younger than me.
Tonight I pray for Danielle and her brother.
