Tomasz Stankiewicz They use USB because they you can buy microphones that have digital interface built in. It's great for people that just need one microphone, so they don't have to buy expensive audio interfaces.

Tomasz Stankiewicz USB microphones became popular quite recently and they're mainly used among podcasters and lectors. In recording studios the main solution is still a microphone, preamp and audio interface :)
