bvphotosnap Awww those red squirrels are so sweet!! :) I think this black squirrel likes attention, he seems to pose for me :D

Margie This is sooo cute. Love the black against the white and the little paws holding the yellow corn. Nice capture!

bvphotosnap Thanks so much @Margie!! He is loving all the attention he's been getting lately from my family :) I know that you have so many but we have very few here. I didn't see one for two years when I lived further north of here.

Amarnath Shiva Beautiful pic. Never seen a black squirrel

bvphotosnap Thank you very much @Amarnath!!

My Confetti Moon Cute!! Luv the contrast plus the bits of flying snow; nice!

bvphotosnap Thank you @My!

jokele I've never seen a black one before :-O

bvphotosnap Oh my!! They are quite common in North America :)

freyr Wow! Great one! :D It's the first time I see a black squirrel. I try to imagine one of the red/ginger one (that we have here) standing next to black one :D

bvphotosnap Thanks @freyr!! The black squirrels are just a little bit bigger than your red squirrels!

freyr You're welcome! I googled them... and it's definetely another good reason to visit North America! xD

NitaR Great capture! Great detail on his fur and whiskers. The black squirrel is actually a colour variation of the eastern grey squirrel. It is an introduced species in Alberta and has taken over habitat of the native red squirrel. Once I heard that they some how got out of the Calgary zoo and now they are the dominant species here.

bvphotosnap Thanks very much @NitaR!! I agree about them taking over the red squirrels territory. I guess it depends on who you talk to about where they come from but I found this link interesting if you'd like to read more: hww.ca/en/wildlife/mammals/eas...

NitaR Thanks - good to get more info! Another aside - when I was reading about squirrels raiding bird feeders it mentioned that they also eat bird eggs.

bvphotosnap Oh my!! I had no idea, that's so sad :(

Tomasz Dolata nut? just reminds me of the "Ice Age" :)

bvphotosnap oh yes scrat! :D!!
