Steve Karg I usually keep the white balance on Auto unless the color looks just plain wrong to my eye. This moon was very low on the horizon and very orange. I had stopped at a store after work to pick up some last minute items for my wife for supper, and saw the moon in the trees, and so I drove my car up to a higher vantage point to take a photo above the trees.
Yesterday I photographed the full moon higher in the sky above my house and it was very white.
Sometimes the ISO setting on this PowerShot camera affects the moon color too, such as when I took the photo of the Strawberry Moon in June and the moon in the photo turned out pink:
