At first I didn't like Alexanderplatz. It was scary, too big, and the multi-level metro station below the surface was way too confusing.
But the more times I'm here, the more I appreciate how organized it is, at least in this one part. You see, most of Alexanderplatz is a pedestrian zone with a wide street leading around it. But right through the middle, with no true pedestrian crossing, two tram rails cross it.
And people don't fall under trams, and don't complain their tram slows down before the plaza, and don't cross too riskily even though everyone here is in a rush.
Big respect.
(I'm not a true Berliner just yet - the bit about confusing tunnels is still true... I have been here at least 20 times now but reached my preferred exit to ground level only once.)
