Yes, this a native red squirrel. This is about as far south you'll find them (any further and you're I to grey territory).
I've known, academically, that squirrels will dig in the snow, but have never really seen it in the wild before.

NitaR Great capture! I didn't know that squirrels tunnel in the snow. Most of the ones around here are the eastern grey squirrels and this one looks like a native red squirrel???
