Yesterday I made a very last minute decision to go try to grab some milky way photos.
It seemed a good idea at the time - I had already sussed out the location, all I had to do was rock up, fill in 3 hours, and head home.
I had decided on Malmsbury - Wikipedia tells me it's 98km out of town, and up in the mountains. Check the weather - should be mostly clear skies.
Get to the train station, turns out they're running buses instead. 1.5 hours later I get off the bus in Malmsbury in the dark and go to find my first spot - a massive viaduct that with the right composition will look awesome.
Unfortunately, the smoke haze from the last couple of days made an appearance, and the only shots I really got of the milky way was mostly just haze.
Malmsbury has a water reservoir nearby as well - lets go check it out. Oh look - the moon has risen. Can't see a thing now. You know what? Lets just take a photo of the train station instead. And sit there, in the icy cold for 1.5 hours until the bus rocks up.
TLDR: Moonshine and smoke haze makes for a sad Lauren.
