A complete solar eclipse was occurring from the northwest to southern east coast of the US. The news outlets were buzzing with excitement. Relatives in Nashville, where there would be complete coverage, were enjoying the festivities. And last February, even before the hype, Jerry and Anne booked their hotel in Charlestown to witness the event.
The last total eclipse occurred 19 years ago in August - the same month Dad and Uncle Herb died. Maybe that's why Holly and I decided to spend this day together. Gwen came with Holly and even Patti made the trip to be with us. None of us had safety glasses though, so we expected use the pinhole-in-a-piece-of-paper indirect viewing method. Not exciting, but we had no choice. Lucky for us, however, Holly, Gwen and I stopped at Neil Troyer's furniture showroom earlier this morning. He had binoculars around his neck and holding a pair of dark glasses. I asked if they were for the eclipse. He said yes, he ordered the kit. How pathetic that even with Amazon's two-day shipping offer, we didn't have glasses. Neil kindly invited us to share his family's set. (Neil was the cabinetmaker who made our bar cabinets and family room bookcases.) Here I am trying to do a eclipse selfie with Neil's photo cover.
