eventide As Ambrose Gwinnett Bierce said: "We're all insane, but this one, who can analyse his delusions, is named philosophe" :D
makebate I saw Beksiński's work about two months ago, it was my first time. I remember i was so so shocked, it looks completely different than in books or on the internet. I am full of admiration for his work. I as well can't beleive that he was so ordinary. But maybe inside of him, there was his cruel, insane world? Who knows..
eventide
I went to the exhibition after watching both "Ostatnia rodzina" and "Beksińscy. Album wideofoniczny". I must say, that figure of Zdzisław was in both movies presented as absolutely ordinary man, living in ordinary flat. But who knows, how looked the reality of whole family? Sometimes I'm thinking, that suicide attempts of Tomek Beksiński were totally justified, because, when growing up, he was surrounded by all this depressing and frightening paintings.
And in "Ostatnia rodzina" there was a scene of Zdzisław talking with his art dealer, played by Andrzej Chyra, about a computer programme or something similar, where he could create a figure of Alicia Silverstone, who ultimately killed his character, and that was a source of pleasure for him. Maybe it was the sign, that he wasn't as normal as he looked like and as he was presented - that somewhere deep inside he was cruel and he was transfering that cruelty onto his paintings.
The most tragic person from this family was, in fact, Zosia Beksińska - muse, cook, nurse, servant, charwoman... Even if the closest kin are criticizing the "Ostatnia rodzina", we, as strangers, cannot say, what's true.
eventide It's hard to say, if he was or wasn't ordinary, because we only can watch movies, read the interviews and see paintings, photos and videos that Zdzisław made. Everyone can have his own opinion on if he was well masked psychopath, or if he was normal men with insane fantasy.
Krzysztof Maciejewski There are no normal guys. Normality is just an average of social insanity. :-)
