Burning passion [day 128]

This is somehow the shot I wanted to take yesterday - just I didn't use a big enough candle.

Today I did my experiments with a big citronella, that makes a lot of dark smoke, as it burns its red flame, and got dozen of amazing shots. As yesterday, I used a black cardboard backdrop, a flash with a snoot and a remote trigger. But this time I didn't need to blow out the candle to make smoke.

After a few tries I found that setting the power of the flash between 1/8 and 1/2 I could get amazing smoke shots, mostly depending on the position of the flash.

At first I tried to do as many suggest, avoiding any light spilling on the backdrop, but actually I really like shots like this, when you can see the light coming in the scene.

I ended up with dozen of amazing shots, and a very smokey room - next time I'll try this outside! ;-)

Shot on Canon 550D with a Yongnuo YN560 flash, a RF603 trigger. Edit in Lightroom Classic CC.
