With an hour or two to spare in Bristol, and rapidly clearing skies after yesterday's rain, I had to head up to take an aerial view of another of Isambard Kingdom Brunel's masterpieces - the Clifton Suspension Bridge!
Opened in 1864 (5 years after Brunel's death) the design had been revised by William Henry Barlow and Sir John Hawkshaw and is now one of the most famous sites of Bristol.
The bridge spans the Avon Gorge and River Avon, and connects Clifton in Bristol to Leigh Woods in North Somerset. It is 412m long, sits 75m above the high water mark, and is just under 10m wide - only enough for one-way traffic.
