Kevin Drum lonelyspeck.com has some of the best tutorials, especially when it comes to settings, gear, and post-processing. If you can find a light pollution map (or "clear sky map" or "dark sky map") for your area, that can a be big help in avoiding light pollution. I also check a local clear sky chart for astronomers (like this cleardarksky.com/c/ThSddlVAkey...), which has hourly forecasts for three other important factors: cloudiness, haziness, and moon brightness.
