There were 3 Heron today, the little female (pictured), the adult male and the male with the dark patch. They were all quite well behaved for a change.
The coot came over to the edge of the loch with her chicks. Sadly there were only 2. I gave her a bit of fish which landed on the soil. She picked it up and washed it, then picked little pieces off which she fed to the young. Once they knew what it was she gave the whole bit to one off the chicks then came back to me for more. I gave her another bit which was washed and given to the other chick. She then came back for a bit for herself. It was amazing to watch. The adult male heron then took off towards the nest area and I could hear the chicks. There were about 4 crows.
