Maui is a talisman and a companion. The ocean gave him to me on the last day of my vacation this summer, and now Maui sits atop my cubicle at work reminding me that another vacation is just around the corner. He also likes to go on adventures with me and pose in many unexpected and even risqué situations.
Today was a dual purpose hike into the Wood Canyon. I went to check out the 1950s car half-dug into the ground in the middle of an aptly named Car Wreck Trail, and I wanted to test my second Industar I-61 lens that arrived in the mail yesterday. I loved the trail and the car wreck, but was unimpressed with the lens. It has no visible defect like the last one I bought on eBay, but it is neither as sharp, nor has as much character as Fotasy N35. The day was overcast, and I did not get to try it in the bokeh and sun flair departments. Curiously, I believe I had the same lens when I was growing up with my FED-2. Back then I did not even know the lens was detachable, and frankly did not pay much attention to its characteristics. My photos were never particularly sharp then, and neither was today's batch. In some way, I succeeded in reviving the low-fi nostalgia of my adolescence. I guess I will keep looking, because the stuff people post on Flickr taken with I-61 is amazing.
After we were done shooting the car, Maui suggested this shot for the weekly theme. Can you guess where he is posing?
