Der Fulehung

This is a statue of the Fulehung in Thun. He was the court jester of Charles the Bold - Duke of Burgundy - who was captured at the battle of Murten in 1476 by the soldiers of Thun. He lives on at Thun in the yearly Autumn festival called Ausschiesset when he makes an appearance during the parade in his mask and chases young people through the streets hitting them with the pigs bladders he carries on his shoulder and rapping their legs with his club. He also hands candy to the children. The parade is for the Cadet Corps of Thun and of course Wilhelm Tell makes an appearance.
