Alek Jedliński Wonderful photo, nothing to change :) Is it focus stacking?

Jakub Szymański Not this time. Here you have only bigger f'stop and increased focal length.

Hanna Gawrychowska beautiful red rose, beautiful black, beautiful colors ...
but for me too much space from the top - or too few stems, too short stem

Jakub Szymański Thank you for sharing your opinion! It was planned to show it like this to hear what you (everyone) think about this composition :) I like this & know it isn't usual.

ponzu I think the composition tries too hard to be original. It's almost as if you read about the "rule of thirds", and had the grid on the screen with two vertical and two horizontal lines and four "optimal" spots at the intersection to place your subject, and you picked, at random, the lower right spot. The black space does not add much to the story, if there should be a story. It does not make the flower feel "lonely", or "lost" or "dramatic", it's just feel like a wasted space that you could have used to show more of the rose details. At the same time, had you placed the rose larger and more centered in the frame, many would feel that the shot and the composition were "ordinary", and that's probably not what you want. I think when photographing flowers, the flower pretty mush is the story. Either it is beautiful and/or unusual, or it isn't. This one is. You did quite a few things right. You picked a very plain dark background. As Scott Kelby writes in his book, only half jokingly, if you want to make a beautiful photo of a flower, found a good background, and place a flower in front of it. I am again impressed with your Fujifilm camera and how good it made the flower look. Very sharp and beautiful colors.

Jakub Szymański "I think the composition tries too hard to be original. " Shh.. nobody must know ;) You can add "Happy Valentine Day" on the empty space ;) It is great option isn't it? Ok, I'm serious now. You have right it will be better if I place it in the center or sth. I had another another compositions to post but I noticed that the petal edge is damaged and the rest were too ordinary at this day. But you have right! So what? It is photo of fower. Yeap I know this Kelby's sentence - 100% true.

Again about camera - it is a also great option to use it with old manual lenses (it is true for all mirrorless cameras). The only thing that confuse me is when I use film simulations during post process. Sometimes photos seems to be darker, but it is no problem to increase EV. However I want to learn how to predic it. There is also very long discussion about what soft is the best for the X trans sensor but I'm not sure I want to get PhD in software ;)

ponzu I did not realize you used an old manual lens. I have nothing but trouble with the old lenses I got from eBay, perhaps that is not the best way to buy them, or perhaps you can go through a lot before you get one that works.

Jakub Szymański Not at this time, here I used the new one. The old lens I used to shot another compositions and for exaple here "Morning Rushes" and here "Coffee Love"
