tacky monument or not?

Today we visited Ste-Mère-Eglise, another place where important historic events of the D-day happened. One guy, John Steele, really got stuck at the church tower with his parachute, but he survived! We visited the muséum Airborne which is really worth a visit. I did not expect it to affect me as much as it actually did. We Europeans (Swiss people included!) tend to forget that we owe our freedom to these American soldiers - I do not want to imagine what could have happened to our continent if the Americans had not joined that war against Nazi Germany! And that freedom and peace are fragile and we should not take it for granted!
