This morning the young Heron flew over to the grass and got her full share of the whitebait. She flew off back to the loch when she was finished. The male was also at his usual spot and got some pollock and some whitebait. The crow had a biscuit. I noticed that a squirrel was watching with great interest as I fed the male and thought I had seen it the day before. I had nothing with me that would have interested a squirrel so moved on home when the male was finished.
This afternoon I took some Brazil nuts in addition to the biscuits and fish. The young heron flew over to the edge of the loch and was joined by the other female heron. I fed them both the whitebait I had and moved on to find the male. I was passing the spot I fed the male this morning and a squirrel was there. I don't know for sure if it was the one from this morning or not but I threw it a nut and it was straight down for it (it ended up getting 3 nuts). I still could not find the male. A couple of guys were feeding bread to the ducks and I noticed that a young heron (not one of the new-born more like last years) was eating the bread. I waited until they went further round and gave it some pollock as bread would do it no good. Eventually the male showed up and got it's pollock and I left for home.
Margie I bet that squirrel was waiting for you. I was sorry to hear that people were feeding bread to birds because I understand that is not good to them.
