Jennifer I like the tone that this has from being shot at night, but it's SO dark that it's kind of hard for me to see the details of it. I'm able to get that it's railroad tracks and then I can see the sky, of course. Did you intend to have it be dark like that so that the viewer is unsure of what they see?

Eugene Alexeev Hi @Jennifer, yes I did. My intent was not to transmit information or specific details, but a feeling of long distance and solitude.

Eugene Alexeev Imagine walking along the tracks. There is barely enough light to make out the rail road. On either side are fields, bushes, and anything else. How long will you have to walk? Will the light fade? What is in the shadows? ...that was the idea. The other way to look at this is upside down where you're looking at a white mountain with a pair of search light beams striking out into the dark.

Jennifer Oooh, that's a really interesting idea! I thought that might have been the intent; it seemed deliberate. After looking at this upside down, as you mentioned, I saw the mountain-searchbeam image and was delighted. I love when photos are two-in-one like that! For me, your intent worked. I was squinting and questioning and trying to figure out how far it was... perfect! :)

Michael Gatton I like this composition and concept a lot. I might like a little more brightness in the metallic rails, without changing the overall dark tone, just for a more striking contrast and prominent leading lines. But that's a judgment call and your vision is what counts.

Eugene Alexeev @chan, thank you. The center rail is already lightened for the purpose you described. I will see how much brighter I can make before it upsets the scene. I'm glad the concept was well received.
