fragments of reality

Sometimes we stumble upon a photo, often showing details only, that are well-cut fragments from reality. As if the photographer has not just shown us an interesting detail of something, but really thought about how to frame this detail to show it best and create an appealing picture. Often, these compositions do not follow the classical rule of thirds or have strong leading lines or use other important composition rules. Instead, they show rather unusual, situationally adapted, and interesting compositions. By focusing on a single detail, the photographer invites us to fill in the gaps and imagine the complete scene. This also creates a sense of intimacy and encourages the viewer to engage more actively with the image.
