Bruce It's actually quite easy. All you need is a sturdy tripod, a cable release, and a reasonable lens. I used a 100-400mm, but you could get by with a 200mm or 300mm, and crop it, since today's sensors are so good even for cropped sensors or mirrorless cameras. With just a wide-angle lens, you can also do Milky Way photos (depending on the light-pollution). Here in Seattle, I'd have to drive quite a ways to get away from all the light pollution. I imagine it's much better where you are!
