There were 7 heron today and no coots. The coots may be back tomorrow. The shot is of the little female.
When I arrived at the loch the 7 heron were arriving from all directions. The grass at the entrance has been allowed to grow long and the heron find it difficult at times to find the fish. I normally walk them over to the slope where the grass is much shorter. Today there was an older woman with presumably her granddaughter in the enclosed play area. However she had left the gate open so that her dog could run in and out. I decided to take the heron further away, nearer the loch. I was in the middle of feeding them when she came out of the play area with her granddaughter then proceeded to throw the dogs ball into the middle of the heron. The dog ran right over to them and scattered them. Her only reason for doing it must have been to let the girl see her dog chasing the birds. I just turned and walked round the path followed by my regular 4. There is no point remonstrating with evil people, thankfully now 99 percent of the dog owners put their dogs on a lead as they do not derive pleasure in seeing their dogs chasing birds.
