questionable landmark

Chindlifrässerbrunnen means 'child-eater-fountain' in English. Nobody seems to really know what is the true intention behind the design of the sculpture on top of a fountain from 1546 - interpretations reach from ‚just a bogeyman to scare naughty children' to an anti Semitic message. Lido I read on Wikipedia that: another theory is the eight children depict the eight cantons of the Old Swiss Confederacy and the Ogre is an enemy (possibly Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy) trying to gobble the cantons up. 😳

jazzie That was not mentioned in the German Wikipedia article. Interesting. We'll probably never know unless previously unknown texts from the time of its creation would be descovered.
