Hi Paweł, Could you please suggest the best possible resolution of the photos I upload to the site so that the other users have the best possible viewing experience? I noticed that my last photo uploaded in full resolution when view (magnified) is not so sharp on the tookapic site as it is on my computer.
Thank you for your reply.
Daniel
Daniel Zaleski OK, second question: If I upload a photo in lower resolution (what resolution are the photos rescaled to by your server?) would it be still compressed? I would like to have control over the final display quality for all the viewers.
Paweł Kadysz It will still be compressed. But to be honest, It's really hard to tell if the photo is 75% or 100% quality. But the file size difference is significant. It costs a lot to host those images. And by a lot, I mean a lot, a lot.
Daniel Zaleski In this case, I suppose upload highest resolution is the best suggestion, am I right? Is there anything I can do to minimize quality loss during upload?
Paweł Kadysz It is best to upload your original resolution with 100% quality. Our file size limit is now 50MB. We store the original on our servers. The original can be then used for printing your photobook (if you decide to create one on tookapic) or for licensing (if you decide to put some of your photos for sale).
agnieszka bladzik the quality loss is really visible on night photos ;/

Paweł Kadysz Full resolution is always the best. We scale all the photos down and compress them to around 70-80% JPG quality. If you're browsing on a monitor with HiDPI screen (like Apple's Retina) zoomed-in photos won't look 100% crisp and sharp.
