I've recently returned from a 1-month journey across the USA and have thousands of photos taken both by my Olympus camera and my iPhone. I am trying to make a photobook for my dad with whom I have made this trip, but I only have a limited number of pages compared to the amount of photos I would like to include (even considering I can fit 3-6 pics on one page)!
Has anyone done this before? What where your criteria to choose photos for the book? How do you prepare the layout? Is there a software you could recommend or do you print out your favourites first and plan the layout the traditional way? It's been 32 days, and sometimes we have visited several beautiful places on one day. It's my third attempt now and I'm about to give up.
I start to think it would be easier to make a road-movie. ;-)
tigg Don't give up! I have some 12 or more photo books on the kitchen shelf and we all look at them so often. Especially our 20 year old son. Worth the foot I promise you.
Markus Jansson Have you checked out blurb.com? I haven't used them myself, but my girlfriend has and it turned out very nice. As for culling the photos that are supposed to go in the book; If you have access to a printer, print them out in smaller sizes and arrange the on a table or a wall. That way it's easier to get a feel for how it will flow and what fits together. And you could always ask a friend that you think has good taste to help you out. Tell them "I have to cut 10 photos out, which ones do think should go?"
Grace I have made a few, and its fun, I try to pick a few photos from each day that represented the best memories/activities/scenes from the day. I like to use Indesign to plan the layout, you can set up the page size, and draw in boxes where the photos will go, then drop them into the right spot. There is also a plugin from blurb.com if you want to print on there.

jewels I have done a photobook before, and it is indeed not easy to choose. What about trying the tookapic approach and select your very best one for each day?
